War of the Emerald Throne

Yánë-nór's version of the Hundred Years War, this decades long conflict saw Prince Folen consolidate control over the Great Canopy at the cost of millions of lives.
In the year 1020 O.M. (Osto Mantanallo), Prince Folen came to the City of Gems (Miriost) with his retainers after the High King Thonar I passed. Thonar's children had all died in battles leaving Folen the eldest male in the family. Suffice it to say that his cousins were not too pleased about this.

War of the Emerald Throne from the Lander's Perspective

Although the Landermensch exists de facto as a separate polity from the Great Canopy, their politics have remained intertwined.
When the war broke out, a number of barons and counts declared. The Lander himself pledged - and Prince Folen accepted - the neutrality of his territories as King of Saxonhall.
The war depopulated vast areas of the Landermensch including the Eisenfluss Valley.

Prince Folen may have successfully gained control of the Great Canopy, but the finances of the polity are almost ruined.
- The fantastic stores of wealth were spent on foreign mercenaries.
- The people had to import food from the Old Lands at great price and hardship.
- Eventually, Folen's faction had to enslave their prisoners to keep the economy functioning.
At present Prince Folen has not been acknowledged as High King as the High King must ascend with a bride, and he is unmarried.
