The Tester

Description

The Tester has no name anyone knows, or none they will say aloud. He is an old man — ancient, some say, beyond reasonable age — slight and pale from decades of underground living, with careful hands and the unhurried manner of someone who has never once been interrupted at his work. He built the Pit over thirty years, trap by trap, with neither audience nor explanation. He lives in chambers beneath the arena floor accessible only through the maze itself, surrounded by mechanisms, diagrams, and notes written in a hand too small to read without effort. What he is testing for, he has never said.
Somewhere along the way he made a deal with a demon for his drawings to become reality anywhere in the city. Anyone who succeeds a DC 10 Persuasion Check can convince him to create just about any building.
