Description
Basics
- This realm of men and other races is not a unified state but a collection of domains under a high king who only has ceremonial powers.
- Located upon the continent of Neas, it has a temperate climate with its southern regions enjoying milder temperatures.
- Landermensch was originally settled a thousand years ago by human, elves, and dwarves from the continent of Aelivandôr. Although the Elves would found the Great Canopy and mostly settle there, the humans, dwarves, and lesser races found the plains and peaks of Landermensch much to their liking.
- Bergstadt was a free city before the War of the Emerald Throne that enjoyed the protection of the Lander.
Governance
- The Landermensch is a confederation of princes under a weak central authority much as the Holy Roman Empire existed from the 10th Century onwards.
- The Lander is the ruler of the polity, but this positions is elected upon the Lander's death.
- For the last several centuries the Balloters have chosen the King of Saxonhall or his rival, the Earl of Rhineville.
- Throughout the polity small baronies and counts exist who owe fealty directly to the Lander.
- Free cities, like Bergstadt also exist.
