Backstory

Siegfried Schäfer was born in Bergy and left at the gates of a local monastery after his mother died in childbirth, with no one remaining to claim him. The monks took him in without question, raising him in scripture, discipline, and song. While other novices labored in the fields or workshops, Siegfried—slight of build and often overlooked for physical work—found his place in the chapel, where he excelled in music and liturgical chant.

Through hymns and teachings, he grew up on stories of saints, martyrs, and quiet heroes who brought light into dark places. Surrounded by kindness and patience, Siegfried came to believe the world was, at its core, something that could be made better. But he was also aware
